Permanent Residence for TPS Recipients
On Monday, January 30, 2012, more than 20 organizations in 10 states launched a national campaign for permanent residency for Central Americans who have been legally living and working in the United States for over 15 years, but only have temporary status.
TPS beneficiaries pay their taxes annually, pay TPS fees to maintain their status, undergo a background check every 18 months and fulfill every hurdle put before them. We believe they have earned the opportunity to become lawful permanent residents so they can contribute even more to their communities and their families.
We came together to support vibrant futures for families that contribute to our national economy and, have been a critical and positive force in the reconstruction of their home countries by often supporting family members. Permanent Residency is the only solution to ending the uncertainty and legal limbo that these thousands of families are living in every day. It is the only viable way to enable thousands of families can stay together and can continue to contribute to the economy and their communities.
We are making a call to all members of the community, legislators, community organizations and activists, congregations and faith leaders, unions, and all those who support a fair and viable solution for immigrant families in the U.S. to come together and support this campaign.
